Evaluation of Web-Based Data Tools

Client: North Central Regional Education Laboratory (NCREL)
Term: November 2001–November 2003

This was an evaluation of two Web-based school improvement sites, Illinois School Improvement Web site (ILSI) and Wisconsin Information Network for Successful Schools (WINSS), and the training to support their implementation. ILSI was designed to help educators make school improvement decisions by providing access to descriptive and comparative data, state standards, and school improvement tools. Another goal of the Web site is to enhance communication among parents, educators, and businesses in the community.

WINSS was designed to do the following:

  • Help educators, parents, and community members increase awareness of expectations of Wisconsin schools
  • Compare how schools are doing in relation to local and national averages
  • Obtain resources and strategies for improvement

A combination of techniques was utilized to evaluate the two sites and the training and support of these sites, including descriptive and comparative analyses, content analysis, focus groups, interviews, and surveys.
