Case Study of Key Effective Practices Implemented by Ohio's 1999-2000 Improved School Districts
Client: Ohio Department of Education Term: March 2001–February 2002
The Ohio Local Report Card released by the Ohio Department of Education in February 2000 showed that 189 school districts improved their performance rating from the previous year. Telephone interviews and site visits were used to provide detailed descriptions of the steps that communities, districts, schools, teachers, and students took to improve performance. Circumstances that contributed to, or hindered, successful implementation of the strategies were reviewed as well. Materials were developed to encourage other districts to take similar steps. The Center's written report acts as a manual, and in addition, videotapes, a CD-ROM, and an interactive Web site are means of disseminating information to a wide audience and increasing the likelihood that districts will be able to replicate improvement success.
