Evaluation of the Ohio Literacy Initiative: OhioReads & Reading Excellence Act for Improving Reading
Client: Ohio Department of Education Term: March 2001–June 2003
The Center conducted a statewide evaluation of two major literacy programs in Ohio focused on literary development in K-4 students--OhioReads and the Reading Excellence Act. OhioReads consists of classroom, community, and summer reading subgrants. The Reading Excellence Act consists of local reading improvement subgrants and tutorial assistance sub-grants. The evaluation focused on addressing business processes, formative and summative processes, and policy synthesis of the two programs. Fourth grade proficiency scores were considered along with other measurable outcomes.
