Evaluation of the Ohio Summer Institute on Reading Intervention
Client: Athens-Meigs Educational Service Center (Ohio) Term: July 2000–June 2001
The Center was asked to conduct a study of the Summer Institute on Reading Intervention (SIRI), a series of workshops throughout Ohio designed to provide elementary school teachers intensive professional development and resource materials to address the fourth-grade reading guarantee. The purpose was to provide feedback for future Summer Institutes through a combination of quantitative and qualitative evaluation techniques, including pre- and post-institute teacher surveys, direct observation of SIRI workshops and clinical supervision and classroom teacher observations. An extensive interviewing process was also conducted with SIRI staff, key Ohio Department of Education administrators, Regional Professional Development Center directors, school teachers, and SIRI teacher participants and teacher non-participants.
