Evaluation of Project ENHANCE

Client: Marian College
Term: November 1999–December 2001

The Center conducted a three-year evaluation of the effects of Project ENHANCE on middle school students' mathematics and science learning opportunities and achievement. Project ENHANCE is a program coordinated by Marian College and funded by the Lilly Endowment that works with three Indianapolis private middle schools serving disadvantaged youth.

As part of the evaluation, the Center:

  • Administered open-ended assessments of mathematics and science
  • Collected and analyzed pre-existing achievement data (i.e., standardized state exams, math, and science grades)
  • Involved teachers in completing instructional logs and essential student skills checklists
  • Observed classroom instruction and other math and science learning opportunities (i.e., after school and summer programs)
  • Conducted focus groups with teachers involved in Project ENHANCE
