Evaluation of the Acuity Assessment Program

Client: CTB/McGraw-Hill
Term: September 2008–July 2010

The Center for Evaluation and Education Policy (CEEP) at Indiana University working in collaboration with the Indiana Department of Education was contracted by CTB/McGraw-Hill to evaluate the effect of CTB’s Acuity Assessment Program on student achievement and instructional practice across Indiana. Methods of evaluation in the first year included a fall and spring statewide survey across Indiana to gauge the attitudes and perceptions of educators regarding the Acuity Assessment Program. Another key component of the evaluation involved using qualitative procedures including a questionnaire, focus group sessions, and onsite visits to evaluate the extent to which 12 school corporations have implemented the Acuity Program and how they utilized Acuity data to inform or alter instruction. Qualitative procedures including a survey, focus group sessions, and onsite visits will continue to be used in the second year of the study. In addition, a comparison-group study of Acuity and ISTEP+ test results for Acuity and non-Acuity schools will build a more comprehensive data set to enhance the evidence base for the Acuity Assessment Program.
