Evaluation of the Indianapolis Public Schools/National Urban Alliance Literacy Program
Client: Indianapolis Public Schools Term: February 2004–September 2004
The evaluation of the Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS)/National Urban Alliance (NUA) Literacy Program examines the program’s impact on students’ literacy skills and achievement. In addition, it examines unintended effects to provide stakeholders a better understanding of the overall impact of the program and the interactions and effect of the various components of the intensive professional development. The evaluation also provides formative feedback that informs future implementation of literacy initiatives in IPS and addresses program sustainability after the completion of the NUA involvement.
Multiple methods are used to collect data, including:
- Background and extant data collection
- Web-based surveys of all IPS teachers and principals
- Semi-structured interviews with principals and other key stakeholders
- Site visits/instructional audits of multiple classrooms
- Analyses of extant student achievement data
