Evaluation of the Kentucky Statewide Family Literacy Initiative Years 1 and 2
Client: Kentucky National Center for Family Literacy Term: January 2001–December 2002
This evaluation was conducted in order to support the statewide development of a comprehensive family literacy program in Kentucky. This study was done in two phases. Phase one included the development of a baseline of the status of the delivery of literacy programs in the state that served as a benchmark against which to assess the progress that occurred in phase two. During this evaluation, the Center accomplished the following: - Developed a formal evaluation plan that was presented at the February 2001 Consortium meeting in Louisville
- Interviewed advisory board members to assess key goals of program and challenges that may have hindered expansion and improvement
- Assembled and analyzed databases related to family literacy
- Analyzed case studies of literacy programs in three counties to inform the development of a comprehensive family literacy system
- Developed and conducted surveys administered to service providers for family literacy projects in Kentucky as well as potential providers
- Reported on the outcomes of this study
