Minority Overrepresentation and Special Education Discipline Issues II: Causes and Remediation
Client: Indiana Department of Education Term: January 2001–January 2002
The Center proposed this project to extend the collaboration between the Center and the Indiana State Department of Education to provide data that would increase the understanding of factors that lead to disproportionality. The main objectives of this project included:
- Developing methodology to assess minority overrepresentation in Special Education
- Conducting an intensive case study at the local level of factors contributing to disproportionality
- Conducting a statistical analysis of demographic correlates of disproportionality
- Convening a statewide conference on disproportionality
- Creating a report summarizing these findings to the Indiana Department of Education
